Wayne Obst, Father of Sheryl Glen of Con Trios Yacht Club passed away on Tuesday July 25th

 

Wayne was a Past Commodore (1986)and long time member of Con Trios Yacht Club and boated out of the Duck Club Yacht Club with his wife Jerry on the boat Way-Jer III.

Wayne R. Obst, 80, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2017 in his home in St Petersburg, FL. He was born on April 13, 1937 in Belleville IL to Luin and Ester Obst of Belleville IL. Wayne is predeceased by his parents, Luin and Ester, and his brother, Luin W. Obst.

Wayne grew up Belleville and graduated from Belleville Township High school in 1955. He attended Indiana Tech & Belleville Area College receiving his AD degree in Civil Engineering. Wayne served in the United States Army (artillery gunnery) at Ft. Leonard Wood MO. He worked for Hayden Construction and Illinois Department of Transportation as a civil engineer, building the Poplar St. Bridge. Wayne also owned Gateway Towing (tug) Company and Yorktown apartment complex in Belleville.

Wayne was a member of United States Power Squadron (Merit Mark Award), EAA Sport Aviation Association, Civil Air Patrol, Illinois Pilots Assoc., Scott AFB Aero Club, Con Trios Yacht Club, Bay Area Corvette Club & National Council Corvette Club. He enjoyed flying, boating, travel & his family.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jerry McNamara, married 1957 at St Paul Church in Belleville, IL. They have 3 children Lance (Debby) Obst of St Petersburg FL, Sheryl Glen of St Louis MO and Curt Obst of Belleville IL. 4 grandchildren; Curtis Lee, Crystal, Amber and Emily.

A visitation and funeral service will be held at Lake View Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens,
5000 North Illinois Street, Fairview Heights, IL 62208 | 618-233-7200 on Saturday July 29, 2017.

The family will be greeting friends and relatives from 10am until 2pm, with a short service at 3pm and burial will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens.
